just a touch early for me.

okay, i get that to the retail world thanksgiving & christmas are basically one holiday. i've even heard it called "falliday". which is in & of itself, is a bit annoying, for me personally. there are basically just three holidays i decorate for: halloween, thanksgiving & christmas. & to be honest, the only reason i really decorate at all for thanksgiving, is because all i have to do is take down the witches & goblins, leave up the pumpkins from halloween & i'm set. but i do enjoy the lead up to christmas. & i like the fact that christmas has totally different decorations. i can finally put away the orange pumpkins & break out the red decor (which by the way is my favorite color.) so, you can imagine my frustrations when i walk into target the day after halloween to find the store itself decorated for christmas... not totally decorated mind you, but well on it's way. yet, i've learned to deal with the fact that stores & my tv commercials are ready for christmas, it's just a fact of life. but i do have a problem, when my neighbor's put up their christmas lights & actually turn them ON, well before thanksgiving has even happened! am i being a total scrooge?

You are NOT being a scrooge. I love the Christmas season but when retailers go from "back-to-school" to Christmas, it doesn't extend the season it dilutes it. Bah humbug!

Well, if you're being a scrooge, then I'm a scrooge too I guess. I wait until after Thanksgiving to put up the Christmas decorations and outdoor lights. Turkeys need their day too. :)

Falliday? that's awesome. before you know it, all holidays will be mushed into one big "Eastindependehallowthanksmas" celebration where stores decorate with red and green eggs and pastel ghosts and goblins sporting red, white and blue striped vests. Now that's efficient.

Because Canadian TG is in early October people around here gear up way too early for Christmas....full on yard Christmas decorations are out! I guess I can sort of understand it but I don't like it.

No -- I totally agree with you! What happened to Thanksgiving? People go from Halloween straight to Christmas! What's up with that?!

I been discouraged as well. Not at the retail stores selling Christmas stuff, but the neighborhood associations who already have their decor out! At least wait until the week before Thanksgiving, not right after Halloween.

I already feel like I'm behind and now I feel like they're rubbing it in. (ha ha)

You are not scroogy at all! But honestly, last year, I became literally a scrooge because of all of it. It truly does dilute the holiday when you spread it out so much. I'm usually a twice a week Target shopper but I've narrowed it down to only once a week (heaven forbid!) and refused to even walk back to that section until just yesterday. I know why retailers do it, it still just stinks! And those who feel the need to turn on their lights only make me feel bad for not even having mine up! ;0)
