but not so much today. today gavin found a red sharpie & decided to add a few "touches" to our leather ottoman. thinking i might be
able to get it out, i rubbed at it with a baby wipe. instead of removing the permanent marker (& yep, it really is permanent) i simply succeeded in fading the coloring of the leather... pretty much making it looking even worse. perhaps a little brown shoe polish will do the trick for restoring the leather, but any suggestions on getting rid of the sharpie "art"?

What? You don't want to preserve his beautiful "artwork" for years to come? :-)
Auto supply stores usually have leather restorer/fixer kits... maybe that would work? I bet if you call the furniture store where you bought the ottoman they will also have an idea for you.
You could always draw over his marks with a brown permanent marker and see if that helps make it less noticable.

i would try a magic eraser. it worked on marker on our wood floor the other day . . .

Ugh, my little guy colored all over our couch with pink pen yesterday, and all over the TV and walls with glue stick.

I'd say try the magic eraser. It's worked wonders for me.
This I know works with a ball point pen and maybe it would help with a sharpie....hairspray. It took ink marks off the our dashboard when the kids were little.
I think you might me stuck. Oooooooh man. I hate it when that stuff happens.
I have had my children destroy way too many things with Sharpies. They are the enemy. Now I keep them on the highest shelf in the pantry where they can't see or reach them.
Save it and let him inherit it when he gets married. You might think it's funny by then.
i saw a commercial for the mr. clean magic eraser cleaning up marker. .maybe try that?
Wait! Don't put ANYTHING on it(I'm sure it's waaaayyy to late)until you try Amodex http://www.amodexink.com/. I got this info from the Sharpie website when A. colored all over her new skirt with two colors of Sharpie. I had already used water, detergent, hairspray etc. even though the box says not to and it still got quite a bit out. It says it works on leather too. I had to order it online, but it's worth it to have on hand! Good luck.
This sounds weird, but on some surfaces, if you take a dry erase marker and color on top of the Sharpie it breaks down the permanent ink.
We do it all the time when someone makes the mistake and uses the permanent markers on white boards and the Sharpie marks come right off.
