project: recycle

to those of you who actually KNOW me (in real life that is), you won't be surprised to hear me announce that i'm a jeans and t-shirt kind of girl. although i may dream of being a bit more fashionably chic (maybe wearing THIS sweater with THESE, or what about THIS little beauty?) but when it comes right down to it, jeans just fit my lifestyle. although, i was shocked to realize how many pairs of jeans i have. in my defense (although even i will admit it's a pretty weak defense), i'm a sucker for a GOOD pair of jeans, & when it comes to jeans, i'm not very good at following the golden rule of closet organization of: one in, one out... so i probably have pairs dating back to my college days. so this weekend, i hunkered down & went through those deep, dark & mysterious drawers. but now that i've decided which pairs to keep, what do i do with the rest? should i sell them? donate them? it would be kind of fun to make something out of them? perhaps an apron or a quilt? anyone got any other brilliant ideas? what else can i do to recycle all of my love-ly jeans?

Ok I'm super keen to see what suggestions people come up with. I have worn out two pairs recently, but I just can't bring myself to throw them out. I can't wear them, but the majority of the material is in good condition. So I have washed them and popped them into my material pile, but can't quite think of what to do with them...

Brad's mom made the CUTEST denim quilt with all the boys' old jeans. We sleep under it when we go to her house...it is super warm too. Love it!

I really like the quilt idea, too. Especially since they mean so much to you. If you're not up for that - I'd donate them. This time of year, they would be appreciated.

Oooh! Love the jean recycling ideas. Aprons would be useful and cute, a denim quilt would be darling. My mom made purses (years ago) with old jeans--I wish I still had them. Good luck!

i think selling, donating, or reusing are all good ideas...i was always going to make a picnic quilt with my old jeans...you could save a pair for your kids to wear in about 20 years...donations are good, it helps people, selling is good, it helps you...

I've been saving up levi's for several years now trying to get enough for a denim quilt. I totally think you should make one.

You can never have enough jeans! My mom had a great denim bag made from a pair of jeans, it was really cute. You could also turn one pair into a cute denim-patchwork denim skirt. Or you can turn some into shorts or cute capris. I heard about project rejeaneration where they recycle old jeans by creating something new.

I know the denim quilt is a big hit and they are great the only draw back you need to consider when making it is beware of the size and washing it, they can get pretty heavy when wet and therefore don't know if your washing machine can handle it! Though in my opinion the new front loaders can do anything, I would love one of those.
