it's no secret that i have an addiction. it started slowly & innocently enough... just a little here, and maybe some there. i rarely did it home & i tried to not let it take over my life. for a while i was in complete and total denial. i just did not want to admit i had a problem, it was much easier to justify it. over time that denial turned to anger. anger at the people around me for letting it get so far, anger at me, anger at my suppliers. it wasn't long before i was bargaining for it. i would tell myself... just on thursdays, i would do it. or, only if i was having a crappy day. that lead to a bit of depression... why couldn't i just have it? seriously, what was the big deal? and finally, i think, hopefully i've made it to acceptance. i mean, here i am admitting that i have a problem - that's gotta count for something, right?
so i've realized & accepted the fact that i have a problem. i guess the next step in this painful journey of self-discovery is doing something about it. so sunday night i made a drastic decision to go cold turkey. i guess i could have cut my drugs of choice out of life at a slow and steady pace. but really & truly, deep down inside i just knew that wouldn't work - i'm an all or nothing kinda girl. & i'm proud to report that i've made it this far. i'm not going to say it has been easy, & believe i've been tempted a time or two (it's hard to say no, when everyone else is doing it). but, i've stayed strong. that's right! cherry coke, dr. pepper & regular coke... you aren't going to get the best of me! i'm going to win this battle. wish me luck.

Good luck! :)
YOU CAN DO IT KELLY! It might take a while cause I did it myself-I will admit at first I slipped up a couple of times but now I am coke free (I'm talking the drink here people) I could drink that stuff for breakfast I was so addicted. I'm telling you what-I feel so much better now. I drink more water now-I used to poo poo people that only wanted water with their dinners-Now I am one of them. So funny. Stick to it... You WILL feel so much better!
Maybe, maybe one day I can be as good as you. Just last night as I was finishing watching Army Wives at 11:30pm my husband looks at me and says, your addicted. I thought he meant to the Twilight book series, I had Eclipse in my hand getting ready to read when the show was over. He said no, that too, but your soda. It was 11:30pm and I was opening another diet pepsi. Someday.....
Oh my! Your precious Dr. Pepper with crushed ice that you always used to bring to class! Good luck - you are a better person than I - I love my coke zero!
I quit soda's (coke zero and diet dr. pepper, sometimes I do miss them) but feel great not drinking a couple every day. It's been almost a year and I rarely crave soda and the first thing I always reach for is water now.
You can do it, Good Luck!!
That is crazy you just blogged this. I was about to mention my own detox process on my blog. I am mixing 1/2 Coke zero with 1/2 caff. free diet coke for now. I won't go straight to the caff. free for a month or so. I'm not ready for the withdrawl headaches.
(I sent your package today)
I'm 45 days caffeine sober and I'm not going to lie..I want a Cherry Coke Zero every single day. Good luck!
You can totally do it! The headache will only last 3 days... at least it did for me, but now I have not a problem without it! Good luck!
Wow, you're WAY ahead of me. It will be YEARS before I'm ready to give the stuff up. As a busy mommy, it's really my only indulgence, and I deserve it! (Rationalization is awesome, isn't it??) =)
good luck! i have super-duper addiction to fountain diet coke!
Good luck!!! You are a brave woman. I'll be supporting you... At least you have a cute pedi to get you through--even if it isn't hot pink zebra. I think regular zebra is still pretty dang cool. :)
Kelly I conquered this battle recently and won. It can be done!
You can do it! Just don't take your kids back to the gym with you for awhile, at least while you're detoxing...haha!
it isn't easy, is it? i've been soda free since last friday. i had to have soda during Mamma Mia, but did the kiddo size. now my daily dose has been swapped for iced suntea. no sugar. but enough about me! good grief! a pat on the back to you, dear heart. once you start ticking down the days you've been off the stuff, you find yourself invigorated (sp?) to go another day, and then another until you've gone a full month without it. and you'll have lots of cheerleaders to get there. from the comments, it appears you have quite a budding support program. so consider yourself victorious and strut.
Hooray for you!
I went cold turkey too... I was totally addicted to Dr. Pepper too. The doctor told me I had too... I get migraines and I was also way too dehydrated in the summers because of the caffeine and not enough water.. so cold turkey last summer it was.. You can do it if I did it...!
Oh... Kelly... I totally feel your pain... I have given up diet soda more times then I want to admit... Then even after months, somehow I think I can have just one... and then it is all downhill for there... I hate it... I guess the solution for me would to never even have one... It usually starts at a restaurant where I somehow don't feel like water is enough... and order a soda... ARGH... I should try again... You can do it... but like all habits you will have to figure out your trigger points :)~ I am pulling for you:)

Good Luck! Does that mean even diet drinks are off limits too?
good luck! I have wanted Pepsi soooo much with this pregnancy. I suppose I could attempt ditching the soda- but it's not going to happen until after I have this baby!
Good Luck....I am going "cold turkey" on a few things too......FROSTING!!!!
I am with ya sista.....stay strong!!!
I, too, share in your addiction. I have quit before, too, but slowly found myself working it back in.
I'm going to detox from it myself, too - but not until I'm home and my dad is doing better. Right now it's the only thing I look forward to during the day. Hmphf - I guess it truly is an addiction.
you can do it! i quit drinking carbonated beverages about 5 years ago...and now i hate them. i can't drink a coke or a glass of anything like that without getting a stomach ache.
keep working hard! it is welllll worth it! you'll feel so much better when you don't have that stuff filtering your insides :)
Man, you've got more will power than me! I am a regular Coke girl, and I can't seem to kick it, now matter how pudgy I get in the mid-section! Good luck, and let us know how you're doing!
GOOD LUCK GIRL...YOU CAN DO IT! JUST MAIL ALL OF YOUR LEFTOVERS TO ME IN TENNESSEE!!!
Oh that evil Dr Pepper. I have tried to get him out of my life and he just keeps sneaking back in. Right now he is a stronger force then he has ever been. Oh how can I get him out of my life?
Good luck to you!
You can do it!! My addiction is for diet Dr. Pepper and I must admit it has the best of me too!!
way to go! I LOVE coke. Not diet, but the real thing baby. I don't drink it often but I totally could get addicted. I only drink it on special occasions which is like once or twice a month.
Good luck to you! You can do it!
I tried it...relapsed after 2 weeks and haven't been able to get back on the wagon yet!!!! Dr. Pepper has tooo big of a hold on me!
I am wishing you tons of luck! Maybe I should follow your lead and if you can do it I can! But I have to finish the half a liter I have in the fridge right now! :)
LUCK!
Sonya
Good Luck!
good luck!! If you dont' like water (I don't), I would try those crystal light singles... they are delicious!! YOU CAN DO IT!
I feel your pain!! I got hooked after getting the Subway meals (it's near my work) that come with a soda... after only a few days here and there, I was a gonner and craved a Cherry Coke by mid-day everyday. I've broken this dreadful habit, thank goodness. I began substituting lemonade for the soda and now more water for lemonade. Pelegrino is also great if you miss having something bubbly to drink. Good luck! :)
