the latest in home decor.

we've added a new accessory to our home decor... a rope tying o's bedroom door shut. little owen has been climbing out of his crib for awhile now, but it's only been recently that he realized he can actually open his bedroom door. (& trust me, 5 am wake up calls are no fun). if you've been reading for awhile, you know this isn't the first time we've encountered this. back in the day, you might remember, we had a similar problem with gavin. & although i LOVE the look of the black & orange rope stretched out across our hallway, it looks like santa will be bring THIS special present for owen this holiday season.

Ahh, yes, I too have had that problem! We modded a child door handle thingy by cutting off the tabs that make it possible to open those things and it would just spin... Jax couldn't figure out how to open it for the LIFE of him. Of course, once we potty trained him, we had to take it off. Oh well! He still gets up BEFORE the dawn goes crack.. but doesn't come to get us.

I also put a doorknob cover on the inside of my sons room..he is almost 4 and it's still there..lol. He hasn't even tried to come out of his room since. When he wakes up in the morning and he needs to use the bathroom he just knocks on the inside of his door..luckily for me that isn't until after 9am usually.

I too just did this last week with a snap lock! Works wonders and we haven't had any issues! My first one would of NEVER thought of doing this in a million years! Uggh.

That is too funny! My sister had to get that crib tent for her little boy & it works!! Good luck!

Crib tents are huge lifesavers-unless your child was a dinosaur in his past life. Then he just rips his way out....this is our current problem.

I LOVE the crib tent!!! We are on our third. Yes, some kids can eventually rip their way out, but the company will send a replacement and refund you when you send in the old one. It has literally SAVED my life. Merry Christmas to you!!

Oh me...too funny, probably not for you guys tho...We went thru that with our youngest son & our daughter, but they were sleepwalkers. That is sooo not fun!

I agree these: http://tinyurl.com/6cmhoe are quite a bit easier than rigging ropes across hallways! but it gave me a good laugh!

oops, I meant these: http://tinyurl.com/66tyrq

though the others might be helpful too!

Isn't it funny the lengths we go to? You can totally pull this off!

I used to sleep on the floor outside Josh's bedroom door because he escaped no matter what I tried. At least when he climbed over me, I usually woke up. Dangerous little boys!

Oh yes, I remember when both of my girls learned to FLIP out of their cribs at age 1. EW!! Now I'm just waiting for my son to realize the same thing. Although I TOTALLY suggest investing in a crib tent from Babies-r-us. They are seriously worth it. And the kids feel special! Go figure!

I adore crib tents. I'm so glad they were invented.

When S started this we bought the doorknobs w/ a lock...reversed it and she could not get out. It didn't last long and she realized she couldn't get out. Works like a charm.

This looks dangerous to me. Can't you think of a better way to discpline besides tying the door shut? I don't think the fire marshall would recommend this.

this is definitely not a permanent solution. & it is not a necessarily a matter of discipline.... it's the means to keeping a door closed for the time being. & i can open it just as quickly as one of those door locks. if the fire marshall has kids, i'm sure he'd understand.

I think it adds a nice little festive touch... oh wait, it's Christmas time, not Halloween! :P

Ok hopefully no one will think I am evil but I turn the door knob that had a lock on it around so instead of locking us out we could lock little man in. It was great until he learned several months later that if he banged on the door long enough someone would let him out.

Hahahaha! You sent me down Memory Lane! I used to tie MY SISTER in her bedroom when I babysat her! Before you feel sorry for her: she was a nightmare to babysit. Atrocious.

Good luck with the crib tent. :o

I put a baby gate on my daughters door and put her in a toddler bed. I'm not saying your wrong with what you did.. to each her own but it's a little extreme in my mind... I mean what if there was an emergency? I always like it that I could see what my daughter was doing but she couldn't just roam the house.

Well thats all milestones of babies, and definetly taking such precautions will help in caring of kids :)
