i'm starting to develop a complex.

yes, i realize that i just had a baby. yes, i realize that she was my third baby. yes, i realize that my body isn't just going to bounce back. these are all truths that i've accepted. however, i'm starting to develop just a bit of a complex, courtesy of my four year old gavin. case, or rather, cases in point...

* the day after i had charlie, the boys came to visit me in the hospital. at one point, i got up out of bed & immediately gavin said "oh good mom! you're almost skinny again."
* recently i bribed my kids with the promise of mickey d's happy meals (yes, i am that mom). we were waiting in the drive thru, when gavin randomly announced "mom, you can't eat mcdonald's. it will make you fat." funny thing is, he doesn't think the rule applies to him.
* just yesterday, gavin was giving the babysitter a tour of our house. when he got to our office, where my bike is set up on the trainer, gavin told her "& this is the bike my mom has to ride to make her skinnier."

if this keeps up, & gavin continues to be more concerned (than i am) about how skinny i am, i don't know if i'll have the nerve to get into a bathing suit this summer. personally, i've been pretty thrilled with my recovery, but gavin's got me doubting myself. oh heavens!

Kids don't you just love how honest they are? I wonder what my kids are going to say to me after this baby is born? She is number #6.

My 5 year wanted to know recently, "why do you look like you still have a baby in your tummy?" I guess the fact that I am sitting here eating a donut as I type doesn't help.

Oh Kelly, you can't let his view of you give you a complex (unless this post is meant to be humorous and I am taking it seriously). You have to LOVE yourself no matter what you look like! I still have my baby pouch after 3 babies and I don't exercise like you do!

I've heard it myself. My oldest tells me that I still look like I have a baby in my belly (he's 8), and my youngest is 20 months.

Uh, thanks, Son.

By the way - my metabolism did finally shift back and the weight did come off... again 20 months later. :) But I still look 5 months pregnant if I'm not sucking in the stretched out belly.

Whatever. Good thing kids are worth it!

Glad to know that I am not the only one! My 6 year old has been known to say much of the same things... granted, it is true, but it doesn't make us feel better, now does it? :)

Oh, let's not even get started talking about baby weight. lol I had my son three years ago and I still can't get rid of it. I have no excuse..other than late night donuts and good sweat tea!

I'm also a mommy to 3! Two boys and finally a girl! they are 3, 2 and 9 months. I still look 6 weeks post partum and it's been the craziest struggle I'v ever gone through. It's all totally my fault, absolutely no self control :) But one day, I'll decide that I want to have my body back and REALLY will try. But, those darn kids, they don't finish their food so I have to! And those darn friends, why does every play date include sweet snacks? Anyway, congradulations on your family of five and good luck!!

I'm with you on the complex and I've had 4. I found it definetly took a littler longer to get rid of that love pouch with #4 (He was 10 lbs, that really did it.) I've started making it a game where I talk about THEIR bellies instead of mine, but I still obsess. So I guess it comes down to dealing with what is left over. I just decided that there was a heavy end I wasn't willing to go to and I'd deal with the skinny end that I could get to.
Good Luck and you're not alone!

Yeah, my son said I still look pregnant. Gee. Thanks. Lets teach them about healthy body images though. Their wives will thank us.
