cheaper than therapy...

throughout my entire life, but especially lately, i am reminded how precious this life is. often times my happiness seems to get caught up in the "whens" and "ifs" of life: i will be happy when..., or my life will be complete if... on such occasions i like to remember the words of gordon b. hinckley:

anyone who imagines that bliss is normal is going to waste a lot of time running around shouting that he's been robbed. the fact is that most putts don't drop. most beef is tough. most children grow up to be just ordinary people. most successful marriages require a high degree of mutual toleration.most jobs are more often dull than otherwise...

life is like an old-time rail journey - delays, sidetracks, smoke, dust, cinders, and jolts, interspersed only occasionally by beautiful vistas and thrilling burst of speed. the trick is the thank the lord for letting you have the ride.

what i need to do, what we all need to do, is really ENJOY the ride. i want to stop worrying about the little things in life and start living as though everyday were a special occasion... i want to use my good china for no reason, get gussied up to go to the grocery store, forget about the laundry to spend a little more time with the kids & live with no regrets. i want to remember that:
life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the number of moments that take our breath away.

now you probably didn't need to hear any of this, but i needed to express it. i needed to take stock of my life, my situation, and be grateful. i needed to remember that every day, every hour, every minute we have here is special.

Every mom defintely needs to remember this. I love that quote from Pres. Hinckley... I have never heard it before (or maybe I have but I have no brain or memory anymore!).

Thanks!

Excellent! Something I know I need to be reminded of all the time. Like you said, it's so easy to get bogged down in the whens and if onlys. Each day is a gift and should be lived fully, with a grateful heart. Good thoughts for sure!

I have a tendency to worry too much, and that robs me of 'now.' I need to keep reminding myself that nothing bad is going to happen. Mr. Hinckley was right!
BTW, you asked me about the once a month cooking thing. I haven't forgotten you! But I found a blog that talks about it, that you might enjoy: mrspear.blogspot.com
She has some tips and recipes!

This is so well written! You're wise before your years...(maybe you COULD have a 25-year-old daughter)...most people miss this little bit of knowledge, and therefore miss their life. Thanks for writing it!

Great reminder. I have been thinking the same thing as I just had a friend diagnosed with terminal cancer. She has a six year old daughter like me. I hug my kids a few extra times at night.

You gotta love Pres. Hinckley!

I find it interesting that many people think that the bigger house or better car or more money will make them happy. They fail to realize that if you aren't happy with what you have then the bigger and better wont make you happy either.

i'm so glad you've figured it out so soon in your life...most people take a lot longer...i agree, everyday is important...and it's not the big things...my favorite days in my life are when i've talked to everyone of my children in that day....that's the greatest...
