'twas days before christmas

'twas days before christmas, when all through the house
all the creatures were stirring, even the mouse;
wet undies were hung by the chimney with care,
in hopes that they would dry, much faster there.
the family was gathered around the john,
hooting & hollering, cheering little owen on.
& i in my 'kerchief, and pa in his cap,
had just awoken owen, dry from his nap.
when out in the bathroom there arose such a clatter,
i sprang from the couch to see what was the matter.
away to the "can" i flew like a flash,
tore open the door, after my mad dash
there was pee, i could see, in the toilet bowl.
meaning owen had aimed at the cheerios.
when, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
completely dry undies, & him smiling ear-to-ear.

potty talk.

i quit.  call me a failure. call me lazy. call me anything you want. but honestly, i don't care. sometimes, kids just aren't ready for potty training - and that's my professional opinion. i honestly thought it would be easy, but obviously those were just delusions of a sleep deprived mother. i was excited, i was looking forward to it, it looked so easy on the dvd. unfortunately, owen didn't share my same zeal for the project. one month later, i'm officially hanging up my potty training hat, at least for now. it's just not worth it. & honestly, i don't mind changing diapers all that much. in the mean time, i think i better come up with a better plan of attack. anyone out there got any suggestions for me?

sometimes, being a "mom blogger" is a good gig...

like, when a HUGE & mysterious package arrives on your doorstep.

then, when you open it up, you find an ENTIRE potty training "kit" courtesy of huggies.
looks like i'm going to a very busy girl over the next little while, wish me (& owen) luck.

potty training?

so the countdown has begun! less than two months until the soon-to-be pampered princess is scheduled to make her arrival. am i ready? not really. but, that "nesting" urge has definitely started to take over. suddenly i'm feeling the urge to take a toothbrush to the baseboards & make sure they really are clean. the other urge i'm feeling, but trying hard to resist, is the need, no want, to potty-train owen.

with gavin, i didn't even attemp to potty-train until he was 3 - but mostly because i was too lazy, & he had no interest at all. but when i did decide to train him, it was fairly quick & easy. little o has just turned 2. which, in my mind, seems rather young, but he is showing an interest. although, he definitely doesn't really "get it". the idea of only having one in diapers is wonderful, but am i dreaming? if i potty-train with only two months to go, will he just revert to diapers after the baby comes? will all the effort be a waste of time or will this be the best decision i've ever made? thoughts? theories? any experience on the matter you'd like to share?
